Rouge Sellier takes its name from the saddler’s bench, and the shade lives up to it: a deep, grounded red, more oxblood than cherry, with the calm of something that has always been load-bearing rather than decorative. Silver hardware gives it a modern finish against all that tradition.
The bag is the standard Picotin Lock 18, eighteen centimetres on the two tall sides and thirteen across the base, with the rolled handle and the strap ends threaded through the small lock plate. In Taurillon Clemence the red arrives pebbled and matte, softening along every fold, and the leather’s texture keeps the deep colour from turning austere. It is a red you can wear to work, which is rarer than it sounds.
Mine holds a phone, keys, a compact wallet, a lipstick and a small notebook — an office and after-office kit in one, thanks to walls soft enough to squeeze a fifth thing into. Wrist carry, hands free, stairs and taxis both handled.
The pairing list is short and settled: charcoal, navy, camel and white shirts, with silver jewellery to match the hardware. After a year of daily carries the leather softens, but the colour holds.
The honest notes: this red will read burgundy-brown in poor light, so its brighter face is for daylight; and as with all soft leather buckets, structure is not the promise — drape is. Store it filled, carry it lightly, and it will keep both its colour and its posture for years.
