I retired a black billfold last spring and have not missed it once. What replaced it was this: the R.M.S. in 9D Jaune Ambre and 9O Jaune Naples, two warm yellows cut into one small object that I find in my bag by colour alone, no fumbling. Some mornings that is the entire argument for owning it.
Size-wise it is modest in the hand — seven centimetres tall, ten and a half long, and no thicker than a slim paperback. Into it go three bank cards, my library card and whatever cash is left after the market, folded once. Nothing bulges. The front card comes out at the first tug because the leather is firm enough to keep tension at the mouth without pinching.
Evecolor has that dry, even surface the house uses for its brights, and yellow is arguably the shade it was made for; the colour sits deep in the finish instead of washing pale over a season. The enamel fittings take the amber idea further, with a baked colour that will outlast any painted trim I have owned.
The honest trade-off: a yellow this saturated shows grime at the edges sooner than a dark leather would. In practice a pencil eraser on the corners every few weeks keeps it looking sharp, and I would take that small chore over a holder nobody ever notices. Two yellows on one small object also mean there is always something worth looking at, even on a grey morning commute.
