The 18 is the size I recommend to people who already know how little they need, and Etoupe is the color I recommend to people who want that discipline to go unnoticed. Together they make the most understated bag in this group.
The small Picotin is soft, pebbled Clemence, unlined, with pale contrast stitching tracing the top edge. It carries a phone, keys, a card wallet and a lipstick, and it does so with the relaxed, slightly slouched posture of a much larger bag. The leather is thick enough to hold its shape at the handles and soft enough to sit flat in your lap at dinner. In the hand it feels like a pouch that happens to be beautiful.
Gold hardware is the classic Etoupe partner, and it earns its place here: without that warm note, a small grey-taupe bag can read a little solemn. The lock rests on its tab and the handles fold neatly together when the bag is put away. Against camel, cream or khaki, the color simply works, and it is the version of this neutral I have carried the longest.
One physical detail worth planning around: the two top handles are sized for a hand or a wrist, and they will not clear the sleeve of a heavy winter coat. This is a hand-carry piece from October to March, and a forearm piece the rest of the year. I have never minded; it is part of its charm.
