Rose cancan is not a subtle pink. It is bright, unmistakably feminine and completely unapologetic, and on soft swift calfskin it looks lighter and more playful than the same shade on a stiff leather would. I bought it as a holiday colour and it turned into a dinner colour, which says something. It looks equally good with a tan and with a linen suit.
The sandal itself is the Oasis in calfskin: a pierced H above the vamp, an ankle strap that adjusts, and just under two inches of heel, and six sizes from 36 through 41, made in Italy. The soft leather takes the dye evenly, so there is no streaking along the vamp. The strap is adjustable and stays where you set it.
I wear mine with white and denim and little else, which is the honest truth about a colour this strong — it does not need help. For a wedding, a holiday dinner or a birthday lunch it does the job of a print without the print’s complications. With a white cotton dress it looks like summer defined; with black it looks like confidence.
One practical note: bright pinks are the first colours to look tired when they fade, and sunlight accelerates it. Keep them out of direct light between wears, and expect the vamp, which flexes most, to soften slightly in tone before the rest of the sandal does. Keep them out of a hot car, which is where pink goes dull fastest.
