Rouge H is a red with brown in it, somewhere between oxblood and a good burgundy, which is why it reads evening rather than festive. Alongside silver hardware on a slim H Passant it does something a bright red never manages: it reads as considered rather than loud.
The slim version of this wallet is 18.5 by 12 cm and just 1.6 cm closed, so it lies almost flush against a bag’s lining and disappears under a jacket when needed. Epsom’s stamped grain gives it a matte finish that keeps the red from turning glossy at the fold.
There is room for five or six cards, notes, a few coins in the shallow zip, and a slot for a folded ticket or a cinema stub. I have taken it to the theatre and to dinner with exactly that in it, and it never felt underpacked.
An honest limit: at 1.6 cm this is a wallet for people who carry a phone separately, not a catch-all for receipts. And red leather tells the truth about wear, so the corners will slowly turn a slightly deeper shade. I like that; it is the wallet’s way of remembering the years.
What I would tell a friend buying a first red wallet: pick a red with brown in it and you never have to match it to anything. This one works with black coats, cream knits and denim equally well, and it warms a winter outfit in a way no neutral can. It is the only red I have owned that never felt like a costume.
