I ordered this in Craie expecting to baby it, and the surprise is how little babying it needs. Chalk white is the colour most people admire and then talk themselves out of, which is a shame, because on stamped Epsom it holds up better than you would guess.
This is the gusseted cut of the H Passant compact wallet: 18.5 by 11.5 by 4.5 cm, so the body opens like a small case and the contents stand upright instead of being wedged together. The H detail on the front is the only ornament, and silver hardware keeps the whole thing fresh rather than bridal.
Inside there are card slots along the spine, a long section for notes, and a zipped pocket that swallows coins without bulging. I travel with six cards and two currencies in mine, and because of the depth there is still room for a folded receipt bundle at the back.
The trade-off is real: craie picks up blue from raw denim and ink from the bottom of a tote, so I keep it away from both. Mine carries a small mark from a pen cap, and I stopped minding within a week. Clean hands and a dry cloth keep it looking new for longer than you would expect of a white wallet.
If you are weighing craie against a dark tone, the deciding question is simple: does your bag have a lining that sheds colour? If not, this is one of the easiest pale wallets to live with, and by far the most cheerful thing in a drawer.
