A small bag is the safest place to be bold, and Blue Hydra tests that idea thoroughly. It is a vivid, saturated turquoise, green in the sun, blue in the shade, and in the Neo Garden Party 23 it is loud in the way a good scarf is loud.
The bag keeps its proportions modest: sized at 23 by 16 by 10 centimeters, hand carry, two snap tabs, no strap. What it will take is a phone, a cardholder, keys and sunglasses, with a lipstick dropped in last like a full stop. Against an otherwise plain outfit, white shirt, gray trousers, brown shoes, it becomes the entire design. The handles are short, so it rides on the wrist like a bracelet when your hands are full.
Negonda’s matte surface is what keeps the turquoise on the right side of vivid; the leather absorbs light and softens the edges of the color, so it looks dyed rather than printed. Silver hardware sits cool at the top, the right metal for a cool shade.
Honest considerations: bright leather shows edge wear sooner than dark, and this shade will not blend into a conservative office no matter how you style it. The natural plan is to let it own the weekends, brunches, galleries, holidays, and let the black bag keep the meetings.
My run of gray small bags ended the day I started carrying this. Consider it evidence that small and loud can still be grown-up.
