Dark bronze is the colour of an old lantern or a good fountain pen, and it might be the most interesting neutral in this whole range. On the Mini Herbag Zip 20 it fills the militaire canvas, with noir leather at the top and silver hardware catching the brown-grey tones from below. It reads brown, it reads grey, it changes its mind with the light, which is what a good dark neutral should do.
The build is small but precise: 20 centimetres wide, 17 tall, 7 deep, with all the regular Herbag signatures, turned edges, dense stitching, a hunter-cowhide flap that folds without wrinkles at the corners. The bronze is uniform across the surface, with a matte finish that makes the silver studs look almost bright by comparison.
In practical terms, this is a phone-keys-cards bag, and it is superb at being one. I add a compact camera or a paperback on weekends, and a pair of sunglasses nests on top of everything without complaint. Worn across the body under a coat, it’s invisible until needed; worn on the shoulder over a dark outfit, it’s the subtle colour shift that eyes adjust to a beat late.
The honest note: dark bronze photographs flat in low light, so don’t judge it from a screen, because in the hand it has a soft depth no image quite catches. Also, the noir trim and the bronze canvas differ enough in tone that strong sunlight makes the contrast visible. Neither is a problem; both are reasons this is the colour I recommend to people who already own enough black.
