Étoupe is the grey-brown that runs through this maison’s leathers, the colour of a well-worn bag handle, and on a narrow enamel bracelet with rose-gold plating it becomes the neutral you did not know you needed.
The band is a third of an inch wide on a 6.3-inch wrist, glossy and even, opening with the same toggle clasp that shows the anchor link when it is undone. Because the tone is neither brown nor grey exactly, it behaves almost like a metal itself: it disappears into a work outfit and quietly lifts a plain one.
I wear mine with cream, camel and olive, the colours of a muted wardrobe, and it has turned out to be the bracelet I reach for when I do not want to think. It also looks superb next to rose-gold rings, since the enamel holds the same warmth and lets the metal do the shining, which is more pleasing than it sounds.
What I would flag: muted neutrals are easy to love and easy to overlook, and this one will not give the little shock of colour that a red or a blue version does. If your wardrobe is mostly beige and oatmeal, however, nothing else will sit as easily on the wrist.
Keep it away from scent and hot water; plated and enamelled pieces age fastest at the bathroom sink, which is why mine lives on the dressing table instead.
