Mauve, in the bag world, is not the dusty lilac of a bridesmaid dress but a greyed, mid-depth purple with more attitude than the name suggests. This Lindy 26 wears it well – against black it reads almost neutral, and against cream it turns quietly floral.
Twenty-six centimetres across, eighteen tall, twelve deep, with Clemence’s pebbled grain giving the colour a matte, powdery finish that keeps it adult. Silver hardware cools the purple further. The Lindy shape – folded top, rolled handles, side-clipped strap – needs no introduction here.
My daily fill: a wallet, phone, keys, a lipstick and liner, sunglasses, and a flat pouch with a charger. On errands I wear it crossbody; at lunch I shorten the strap and carry it by the handles. The outside pockets are where the phone and keys stay so the main compartment never turns into a dig.
Two caveats from real use. Muted purples show oil from hands as a faint sheen on the flap over time, so I wipe mine monthly; and in very cold weather Clemence stiffens slightly at the base until it warms against you, a quirk I notice but have never found inconvenient.
Of all the colours in this line, Mauve is the one strangers ask about most – take that as you will. Its best trick is with denim: the greyed purple sits beside blue without either colour arguing, which is rarer than it sounds.
