Craie means chalk, and this is a true off-white – bright without being clinical, the sort of colour that makes an outfit look freshly pressed. I bought it knowing white leather is a commitment, and after a spring and summer of use I can report the commitment is manageable.
Two things help. Clemence’s pebbled, matte grain hides fingerprints better than smooth leather, and its slightly grey undertone means a light smudge reads as shadow rather than a stain. Silver hardware keeps the bag cold and clean. The Lindy 26 measures twenty-six by eighteen by twelve centimetres; I carry a wallet, a phone, sunglasses, a lipstick pouch and a paperback, and the top folds closed over them.
Worn crossbody with denim on holiday it looked wonderful – though I would not pair a white bag with raw indigo, which is the one rule I actually follow. The exterior pockets are perfect for a hotel key or a train ticket.
Honest caveat: white Clemence will never look untouched if you use it honestly. Mine has faint wear at the bottom corners and one small mark near the clasp, both invisible from a metre away, and I have decided they count as lived-in character rather than damage.
If you have the discipline to wipe it monthly, it is the prettiest summer bag I own. Silver on off-white is the pairing I would choose over gold here; it keeps the bag crisp instead of creamy.
