If you only ever own one black bag, make the hardware gold. That is the whole case for this Lindy 26 in Noir, and I have made it to three friends who bought the version with silver and admitted, eventually, that the warm metal does something silver cannot: it makes black look lit from inside.
The bag itself is the personal-size Lindy – twenty-six by eighteen by twelve centimetres, Clemence’s thick pebbled grain, the folded top and twin rolled handles, plus the strap for crossbody days. Gold hardware against deep black is the most classic combination in leather goods, and this bag is proof of why it persists.
What fits in a normal day: a compact wallet, a phone, keys, a sunglasses case, a lipstick, and a small notebook – the 26 rewards restraint. The two exterior pockets keep the phone and metro card within reach, and the clasps loosen up after a week.
Honest note: black Clemence shows dust and lint, and the matte finish can look dry after a very cold week. Both are cosmetic and both disappear with a wipe and a little leather cream once in a while. Also, this size will not take a laptop – never will.
It is the bag I hand to someone who says they want one good black bag and means it. The strap also stays put over a wool coat, which is more than I can say for most slouch bags I have owned.
