37 Gold is the original tan — the colour of a well-used luggage strap, of bare saddle leather, and of everything a leather workshop built its name on — and on Epsom’s embossed calfskin it arrives with a warm, even glow that needs nothing from the hardware to work. This one happens to wear gold on gold, and the monochrome conversation is the entire charm.
The Kelly Mini 2 measures 19 x 12 x 5.5 cm, and in this colour it is the most quietly classic object I own. It works with everything I wear in summer — white, denim, olive, navy — and holds its own in winter against charcoal and forest green. Capacity, as always at this size: phone, card holder, keys, lipstick; the zip pocket holds the small change I never spend. The turn-lock on gold-on-gold has a pleasing visual weight, a knot of brass in the middle of the flap.
Epsom makes the tan liveable: rain beads off, scuffs lift with a wipe, and the embossed grain keeps the tone uniform, so this bag will never mottle or darken the way untreated vegetable-tanned leather can.
One honest caveat, and it is about beauty rather than durability: because this colour is so classic, it can read conservative if the rest of the outfit is conservative too. I like mine with washed denim, chunky knitwear or a bright scarf to keep the look alive. Also worth knowing — light tan shows darkening along the handle and flap edges over years, which is normal and gentle here, and which most owners, myself included, quietly like.
