If the black Epsom mini is the stealth bag, black chèvre is the companionable one — same colour, different temperament. 89 Noir on goat leather has a soft, matte depth that Epsom’s pressed gloss does not; it absorbs rather than reflects, and side by side, the chèvre version looks the more personal of the two.
Silver hardware on black chèvre is the cool, slightly understated combination I keep returning to. The Kelly Mini 2 is 19 x 12 x 5.5 cm, and goat leather’s lighter weight makes the daily case for this size: phone, card case, keys, lipstick, all crossbody, no shoulder strain, no shape lost. The flap and gussets will slowly take on the curve of how I carry it — which is exactly the patina I want from black.
I have used mine for evenings and errands both; against a black suit it disappears into elegance, and against denim it looks like the one considered accessory in a casual outfit. The interior zip pocket holds the metro card; the slip pocket takes receipts I forget to throw away.
Two honest observations from months of use. First, black chèvre shows light pressure marks — where a fingernail or belt touched it — as faint grey traces before they blur and return to black; the leather heals itself in most cases. Second, if you are choosing between this and the same bag in Epsom, choose by whether you prefer reflection or depth: Epsom glints, chèvre swallows. I own both and reach for chèvre more often than I predicted.
