Chai is the beige I would choose for anyone who finds a soft white too stark and a taupe too cool. Colour 0M is warm without going yellow — think milk tea with the teabag left in for one extra minute — and on Epsom’s even grain it reads calm and slightly toasted, the sort of neutral that makes everything around it look intentional.
Gold hardware is the obvious partner and it earns it here: the metal is close enough in temperature to the leather to almost blend, which makes the bag feel like one continuous object rather than leather plus parts. Epsom’s firmness and weather resistance keep the pale tone looking pressed and fresh, rather than tired, which a paler neutral needs above all else.
It takes a phone, a cardholder, keys and one lipstick inside a 19 cm x 12 cm x 5.5 cm body. My favourite outfit for it is the least complicated one I own: cream knit, straight navy trousers, no other colours. It also absorbs a camel coat beautifully, which is more than most beiges can say.
One honest warning: warm beiges lean more golden under warm indoor lighting, and against a cold grey suit the warmth can read as a slight disagreement. That is the entire trade. Worn with cream, camel, navy or denim, it agrees with everything; worn against cool greys, it wants a white shirt between the two.
As a first neutral bag for a warm-toned wardrobe, it is close to ideal.
