The first thing anyone says about this bag is the hardware. Diamond-set silver on a 19cm Kelly is jewellery as much as clasp: the turn-lock catches every light in a room, and on Rose Scheherazade, a deep raspberry pink with real presence, the combination tips firmly into evening territory. I would not call it an everyday bag, and I do not think it wants to be one.
Bright-faced alligator in this pink is frankly difficult to photograph and much better in person; the scales travel from matte rose to almost glass as the angle changes. A hair under twenty centimetres across, it holds the evening basics, phone, lipstick, a cardholder, slim keys, and it keeps its elegant line best when you keep the load minimal.
Care is straightforward but real. The stones and the gloss hate hand cream and perfume, so I let both settle before handling, and I store it so nothing presses against the surface. Bright gator can lift at the scale tips over the years if it dries out; a light conditioning now and then keeps it supple.
One caution: with hardware this loud, quiet clothes work best. Let the clasp do the talking, and the rest of the outfit can whisper.
Between owning this and a classic evening clutch, I would choose the Kelly every time, because a strap means both hands free for the parts of the night that matter, and a turn-lock you can open in the dark.
