Smooth black calf against silver sounds like the default setting for this kind of bag, and yet the Elan does something more specific: long and low, it measures 27 cm from end to end, and that flat shape turns the standard palette into an exercise in line — level, almost architectural across the body. Madame calfskin is the smoothness here, pressed and even, with silver hardware barely a millimetre proud of the surface. Nothing about it raises its voice.
Inside: phone, cardholder, keys, a transit pass behind the rear slip. That is the full inventory, and the bag is happier that way; the flat format holds a single layer and closes without pressure. I wear it on one shoulder with a coat, across the body with denim, and it looks deliberate in both.
Honest notes. Smooth black leather is the most honest leather there is, which is to say it shows every fingerprint and smudge, and it will show light pressure marks on Madame. A wipe and a fingertip buff solve almost all of it; if you cannot abide doing that even occasionally, choose the Chèvre in black instead — it is on this page and it hides more. Second note: no top handle, no back pocket, no interior card slots beyond one slip; this bag offers exactly three things — shape, quality and calm — and nothing else.
On most people, those three are enough.
