Marigold, mustard, goldenrod — Jaune d’Or is the yellow borrowed from a painter’s palette, earthy enough to wear with browns and greens where a brighter yellow would fight them. Evercolor’s grain gives it depth; instead of a flat, poster-like tone you get a yellow that darkens in the folds and catches light on the flap. Twenty-two centimetres side to side, and the silver hardware reads as a cool counterweight to all that warmth.
What I put in it: phone, keys, cardholder, and a small tin of mints that has lived there since the day I got the bag. The flat front pocket takes a metro card or a hotel key without bulking the profile. This is a bag for museum days and long lunches — light, present, not in the way.
Honest note: this is not a shy yellow. It is warmer and deeper than Jaune Milton on this page, and it cooperates with olive, rust, cream and especially navy, but it will not disappear. Yellow leather is also unforgiving of dirt at the edges; a light clean every few months keeps the piping honest, and Evercolor tolerates that routine well.
If you own a lot of blue, buy the Danse in this yellow and thank me in the autumn. Marigold is the colour equivalent of a good mood on a grey day, and it outlasts both the mood and the weather that prompted it.
