Etoupe has a fan club, and after a year with this Kelly 32 I understand the membership. The colour refuses to be pinned down: grey when the sky is grey, taupe against camel, faintly green beside dark wood, never quite any of them. The white contrast stitching is the detail that ties it together, tracing every panel like a drawing. On pebbled Togo, with silver hardware, it is the least demanding special bag I have owned.
At 32 by 23 by 10.5 cm the Kelly 32 is the size that covers most days for most people: a long wallet, phone, keys, a small pouch, sunglasses and a folded scarf fit with a little room left, and the bag stays light enough to carry by the handle through a whole afternoon. Togo’s grain is soft enough to sit under the arm without pressure and tough enough that a scrape against a brick wall leaves nothing behind.
The white stitching is also the one thing to watch, since dirt drawn into light thread shows more than on the leather itself; a gentle brush along the seams now and then keeps it bright, and mine has stayed clean through two winters.
If I have one gripe, it is temperamental styling: with silver hardware the bag leans cool, and on the days I wear gold jewellery I sometimes wish for the warmer version. Try both. Etoupe is generous, but it does have a temperature, and you should know which one your wardrobe lives in.
