Lime is not a colour I chose lightly, but Swift calfskin made the decision easy. The leather is silky and smooth, so the colour stays luminous rather than chalky, and light travels across the surface when the bag moves. On a plain navy coat, this Kelly 32 is the entire outfit.
Swift is the most pliable leather in this collection, which changes how the bag behaves: it drapes gently when carried by the handle, and the flap folds softly over the closure. The 32-centimetre frame still swallows a tablet, a pouch, sunglasses and a paperback, and the strap adjusts for shoulder wear.
Silver hardware keeps the citrus tone from tipping warm – with gold it would read more tropical, with silver it stays clean and modern. In summer this is a beach-to-dinner bag; in winter it does the job a bright scarf would do against dark wool, with more room inside.
Here is the honest part: Swift creases and scuffs more readily than grained leathers, and a bright shade shows the play creases around the flap more than black ever would. I accept a few character lines in exchange for the way this leather takes dye, and I keep the corners away from rough walls. Condition it now and then, and store it filled.
For anyone whose wardrobe is a wall of neutrals, this is the doorway out – carry it once and you will start building outfits around it.
