Gold – the colour, not the hardware – is a warm, honeyed tan sitting between caramel and wheat, and with tonal gold fittings the whole bag becomes one continuous warm note. There is no contrast to distract the eye; what you see is shape, leather and light, which makes this Kelly 28 look more considered than its boldest siblings rather than less.
The 28 by 22 by 10 centimetres are all usable: wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses, a small pouch and a rolled scarf in winter. Epsom keeps the outline firm, the flap edge crisp, and the base flat enough to stand the bag on a bench while you dig for keys. The strap detaches cleanly for evenings.
Wear notes: a mid-tone tan is one of the friendliest colours in daily life – scuffs blur into it, dust is invisible, and it flatters almost every complexion that stands near it. The embossed surface wipes clean, and unlike darker browns it does not hold every fingerprint, because the tone is too warm to gather shadow.
The honest caution is rain. A tan this light can watermark if it gets soaked, so I use a protector spray twice a year and blot rather than rub. None of this has stopped the bag being my default from April to September.
Paired with white, navy or black, tonal Gold quietly finishes outfits that other bags overcomplicate.
