Raisin has grey in it, and that grey is what separates it from purple proper. It is the colour of a dried plum on the outside, muted and slightly dusty, and on this In the Loop 18 it behaves less like a jewel and more like a very interesting neutral. Of all my bags it is the one other quiet dressers ask about first.
Eighteen centimetres across, roughly nineteen and a half from base to loop-top, with a twelve-centimetre floor: the same soft bucket, this time in Taurillon Clemence with its pebbled, sponge-textured surface. Silver hardware suits the dusty tone precisely; gold would make it sweeter, and sweetness is not the Raisin brief. The leather creases into soft valleys rather than sharp folds.
It is a cold-weather bag for me. Wool coat, dark trousers, and it is the only colour on the body, which is a habit the shade encourages. Contents: phone, key pouch, cardholder, compact, and a paperback if the coat has big pockets for everything else. There is something restful about carrying a bag that never argues with the coat rail.
Fair warning about the light: in a dim hallway Raisin can look drab next to true black, and only under daylight does it show its plum. I treat it as a daylight bag now, and the rule has never let me down. If you want a purple that announces itself at midnight, this is not that shade.
