Ebene is the brown that almost gives up and becomes black. In office light it reads as a deep, sombre neutral; in sunlight, warmth climbs through it and you can suddenly see the tree the leather came from. It is the most versatile dark bag I own, and gold hardware keeps it from going severe.
Shape first: the In the Loop 18 is a small bucket, eighteen centimetres across, a touch under twenty to the loop, twelve at the widest point of the base. Taurillon Clemence has that spongy, pebbled hand that folds softly, so the dark brown shows depth of tone where other leathers would show a flat surface. The handle rolls over the wrist comfortably, even over a coat sleeve.
Mine spends weekdays under a desk chair: phone, wallet, keys, a notebook and a fountain pen, everything loose in the single compartment because the bag forgives it. On Friday evenings the notebook comes out and the bag goes to dinner unchanged. At weekends it trades the notebook for a paperback and a pair of sunglasses.
An honest note on the colour: Ebene and black are close relatives, and next to a true black coat the bag will look brown, while next to a brown one it looks black. That ambiguity is the whole charm, but it does mean you should not expect a statement. You are buying the best supporting actor in the wardrobe.
