The great advantage of a black leather bracelet is that it never argues with anything you are wearing, and the great risk is that it disappears. This Glenan avoids the second problem with a rose gold closure that catches the light just often enough: a single braid of Swift calfskin at just 0.12 inches, wrapped once and fastened to suit anything from 5.7 to 6.1 inches.
Close up, the braid is remarkable for its regularity. Swift is a fine, smooth calfskin, and in black its surface has a low, even sheen that suits the woven structure. Made in Italy, with the Glenan closure sitting almost flush to the wrist, this is a bracelet you can wear beside a watch without any risk of the two scratching one another.
Most days it goes on with grey tailoring, a black turtleneck on cold days, and a white shirt when the wrist should look deliberate rather than decorated. Under a cuff it shows as a thin dark line and a flash of metal, which is exactly the register I want at work. On holiday it looks almost too formal, so I leave it at home and take enamel instead.
Two honest points from daily use. Black Swift collects a little dust and lint, invisible on lighter leathers and visible here, so a dry cloth once a week keeps it looking sharp. And the absorbent surface will darken if you spray perfume over the wrist, so spray first and put the bracelet on last. Made in Italy.
