Blue Pale is one of those colours that looks washed out on a screen and alive on leather. In person it is a soft, dusty blue with a touch of grey, the colour of a well-worn shirt, and against Clemence’s pebbled surface it has a depth that photographs never catch.
On the small Evelyne, the effect is understated enough for every day. The bag is compact: eighteen centimetres wide, sixteen high, five deep, with a strap that lives happily across the body on my five-foot-six frame. Silver hardware matches the colour’s coolness, and the perforated H hides inside the leather’s shadow.
What it carries, honestly: phone, a couple of cards, keys and a balm, the load of a person running between meetings and coffee. On weekends the keys make way for a stub of pencil and a note card for the market list. It is not an everything bag; it is the bag you take when you want your hands free and your outfit light.
One caution: because this blue leans light, a dark wool coat can leave faint transfer at the contact point over a season. Mine has a soft grey blush on the inner corner, visible only when I look for it. I keep the bag on the outside of coats rather than under them, and it has stayed near-perfect.
A good first pale bag, and a fine last word in soft blue.
