Etoupe with gold hardware is the warmest version of this small bag. The taupe itself is famously between grey and brown, and the gold fittings push it decisively toward brown, which makes it, of the Epsom Evelynes, the easiest to wear with camel, cream and olive coats.
The leather combination is what gives it character: Epsom’s pressed, even grain keeps the square frame at sixteen by eighteen centimetres box-crisp, while the gold hardware against taupe delivers something almost equestrian, borrowed from a tack room rather than a boutique. The strap adjusts to sit crossbody under outerwear, and the leather will not soften with age, so corners stay proud indefinitely.
Contents, as I carry it: phone, a slim wallet, keys and a tinted balm, with a folded silk scarf occupying the last centimetre of depth on cold days. It is a bag for moving between appointments and dinner without checking anything at a door. Everything stays findable, which matters more the smaller the bag gets.
Honest note: gold hardware collects fine scratches, and on taupe any wear on the fittings shows a shade darker than on silver or black versions. Mine has a faint scuff on the hardware after a year of daily opening; nobody but me has ever noticed it. If hardware must stay flawless, choose silver.
The warmest small Etoupe, for wardrobes made of wool, camel and rain, and mornings that deserve a little warmth.
