Airport light is unkind to almost every colour, but a soft seagull grey handles it with grace. Gris Mouette — gull grey, exactly what the name promises — is pale without being precious, and under silver hardware it reads cool, calm and deliberate as it rides on top of a carry-on. It is my default travel bag, and it has never once looked tired at arrivals.
Twenty-four centimetres across, fifteen high, five deep: the classic recipe, which at passport control means one zip pouch for the documents, a phone, earbuds and keys arranged so the whole thing can be opened and closed with one hand. The rigid Epsom flap means the bag literally stands its ground on the security tray.
The leather is the quiet advantage here. Pressed, sealed and practical, it takes trolley-basket knocks, cabin-crew coffee sloshes and overhead-bin compression without retaining a single memory of them. Wipes back to new in ten seconds with a tissue and a breath — I have tested this claim on three continents.
Honest expectations for a light grey: it shows handling marks earlier than black or navy, so it does reward a five-second tidy every evening, and the pale tone is best kept away from the darker end of your denim shelf. In exchange it keeps any outfit looking more organised than it is, which at the end of a long flight is a service all its own.
