My week, as this bag has experienced it: Monday’s meeting, Tuesday’s flight, Wednesday with a toddler in one arm, and a Saturday lunch that ran long. Etoupe is still the colour I would nominate for that schedule. It is a 24 cm span of grey-brown that shows a scuff for about a second before you rub it away with your thumb.
The classic proportions reward regular use rather than punish it. Five centimetres deep, fifteen high, and a front wide enough for a cardholder, a phone, keys and whatever small emergency the day has produced — a plaster, a receipt, a folded note from school. The shallow body keeps it under a coat on the school run without a wrestle.
Silver hardware gives etoupe a cleaner, more contemporary reading than the gold version — the bag looks tailored rather than soft — and in Epsom the pebbled surface stays matte through all weathers, meaning the whole thing stays grounded no matter what the week does to it.
Fair warning to set expectations: etoupe leans noticeably grey in flat daylight and browner under warm lamplight, so it will not stay one fixed colour in your photos or your memory. I count that as range rather than flaw, but if you want a dependable single note, the darker greys in this collection may suit you better. What it gives you is range; what it never gives you is fuss.
