Rouge H is the red for people who think they do not wear red. It sits in that register between wine and oxblood, so it reads serious in daylight and almost black in a dim room, which is precisely why I chose it over a brighter scarlet for this shape.
The compact 19 cm square-ish front is the most formal thing about the bag, and silver hardware keeps it that way: cool, precise, more boardroom than party. What it carries is deliberately narrow: a phone, a cardholder, keys, a lipstick. Anything more and you are using the wrong bag.
Epsom takes deep dyes beautifully, and the embossed grain holds the colour evenly right to the edges, which matters with a tone this rich. The leather is rigid, so the flap stands proud when open and the bag keeps its geometry on a table; water beads off rather than staining.
Honest trade-off: burgundy Epsom can look almost brown in very warm interior light, so if you want pure red you should know that before you commit. Worn with navy, grey or camel it is quietly excellent, and the silver clasp gives it a precision that keeps it modern. The grain has stayed perfectly even across the flap, and the bag still stands square whenever I set it down. As a first serious red for someone moving beyond black and brown, I cannot think of a safer choice.
