There is a beige that pulls a whole outfit together and there is a beige that makes it look like you are wearing a raincoat indoors. Trench stays on the right side of that line because it leans slightly grey, and the rose gold clasp adds enough blush to keep it from going flat. I bought it to pair with camel, cream and denim, and it has taken over from a much more expensive-looking bag.
The modest 19 cm width keeps it close to the body, and the flap opens to reveal exactly phone, card wallet, keys and lipstick sized real estate. It is the sort of bag that fits a smart-casual day at either end, morning coffee through a long lunch.
Epsom protects the investment that is a light-coloured bag: the grain is pressed firm, so rain and city grime wipe away instead of settling in, and the rigid structure keeps the flap square across the front. Rose gold on light leather is a warm, low-contrast combination that photographs delicately and wears without tiring.
Honest note: trench-beige can wash out against very pale skin tones, which is exactly why the rose gold helps, adding warmth where the leather cannot. Try it against your usual coat colours before you commit, and then enjoy how little thought it needs afterwards. The leather has proven easy to live with: a season of city days has left no marks, only a faint softening along the flap where my hand falls.
