A grey bag that refuses to be boring: 8F Gris Étain is the colour of weathered stone, with enough green in it to change character depending on the light — silver-grey at a desk, moss-tinted by a window. In Epsom on the Bolide 31, the effect is understated without one loud gesture.
The shell measures thirty-one by twenty-five by twelve centimetres, the workhorse format: a laptop up to thirteen inches, a planner, a cable pouch and a water bottle fit with room to spare for a scarf. The heat-embossed calfskin keeps the dome crisp whether the bag is full or nearly empty, and rain is a non-event entirely.
Gold hardware lifts the green-grey from cool to neutral-warm, which is why I would choose it over the silver version for wear with camel and cream. The zip runs edge to edge, so you pack and unpack in one motion; carry by the rolled handle on short hops, or on the shoulder across town.
Two honest caveats. Because Gris Étain shifts colour, judge it in daylight, not on a phone screen — some photographs show it bluer than it is in the hand. And Epsom’s structure means the bag stands away from the body slightly when carried crossbody; it is not a cuddly shape.
For anyone assembling a small wardrobe of bags that all match everything, this is the middle of the bullseye.
