Black and silver is the most modern pairing in this whole line, and on the Bolide 1923 25 it turns a vintage silhouette suddenly contemporary — like a classic watch refinished in steel. In 89 Noir Epsom the little dome is severe, compact and quick: twenty-five centimetres across, twenty tall, ten deep, with no room for slack and no need for any.
The brief is strict and honest: phone, wallet, keys, pouch, sunglasses — and a paperback if the pouch stays home. A tablet is a stretch, a laptop is a fiction. What you get in exchange is speed: the zip opens one-handed, the handle sits in the palm, and the bag never needs repacking. Epsom’s embossed surface makes black nearly care-free — dust wipes off, rain beads, scuffs are practically invisible at this grain depth.
Silver hardware keeps the whole object cool and graphic; the zip pull and strap rings are the only interruptions, and the monochrome effect makes the bag read smaller and lighter than it is.
Honest notes, two. The dark interior hides small items, so a light pouch is not optional for the organisationally optimistic. And Epsom’s stiffness means the bag stands proud of the body rather than tucking against it; if you prefer a bag that becomes part of your coat, choose Togo or Evercolor in this line instead. Nothing about it softens with age — it simply continues, which some people will love and others will not.
From a taxi to a counter to a bar, mine has never once been the wrong bag, and that is worth more than charm.
