Every collection has one bag that refuses to be serious, and this is the Picnic in 37 Gold. I tested whether it could pass for a classic; in honey-warm swift it almost does, until you look properly, and I enjoy it more for that.
It is a 25-frame swift build with silver hardware, and it holds a card case, phone, keys, lipstick, compact and a slim notebook. Gold tones deepen in the sun, and swift takes this color beautifully, with no grain to interrupt it.
In use it is light, quiet and easy to set down anywhere; the silver hardware sits cool against the gold and keeps the whole thing from tipping into costume. On a long day it never becomes a burden, which is the real test of a small bag. I carried it to a noon concert in a sculpture garden and it held its own against the greenery, which is not nothing.
Honest notes: the picnic spirit means this bag is not solemn, and some rooms want solemn. Swift also dents and marks; a knock on the flap leaves a soft bruise you can smooth with a thumb but not erase. In rain, honey-colored leather tells the truth, so bring an umbrella.
It is the 25 I take when the plan is pleasant and unhurried: long lunches, garden visits, slow bookshops. A bag with a sense of play, at a serious level of finish.
