Gris Tourterelle is dove grey with a warm handshake – a soft pinkish-beige undercurrent that keeps it from going cold and corporate. In this 35 it is a chameleon: against a white shirt it reads pale grey, beside a cream coat it warms up, and at night it settles into a soft stone colour. Silver hardware matches that balance instead of fighting it.
Just under ten inches tall, it swallows a full working day with room left over – a slim laptop in the rear slot, a document wallet, a pouch, sunglasses in a case, and keys in the inner pocket where they cannot scratch anything else.
The honest note with a pale greige is smudging at the handles, simply because hands are not clean. It wipes away easily, but you will notice it doing so, and after a few years the leather near the handle bases will sit a shade deeper than the rest of the bag. On this colour that reads as character; on a brighter pale it would read as neglect. That is the sort of honesty I want from a bag I use every day.
What I value most is the patience of it. This is a bag that goes to a christening in the morning and a market in the afternoon without changing a thing about itself.
Togo’s grain takes both outings without picking up a visible scuff.
