Ardoise is the answer to a question I hear often: what do you carry when black feels too formal and pale grey feels too fragile? The slate tone has a little blue in it, and against Togo’s pebble grain it shifts from stone to soft blue-grey depending on the light. Silver hardware keeps that shift cool rather than warm.
I have used a Togo bag of this size hard enough to know how it behaves: the leather has a natural drape, so when you set it down the sides relax a little instead of standing to attention. That softness is why it packs flat into a dust bag and why it feels lighter in the hand than its footprint suggests. The honest flip side is that Togo will eventually show a slight slouch along the top edge; if you want a bag that keeps razor corners forever, this is not the leather for you.
A Birkin 30 in Togo swallows more than you expect: my usual load is a long wallet, keys on a ring, a phone, a compact and a pair of sunglasses, with a folded scarf on top when the weather turns. The interior slip and zip pockets mean small things do not end up in a pile at the bottom.
Carry it by hand to lunch, carry it through an airport, set it on a desk in a meeting, and Togo shrugs most of it off with a damp cloth and a little patience. The trade-off I keep coming back to is weight once loaded: pebbled leather plus hardware is not featherlight, so pack it sensibly and it still carries comfortably.
