I bought this bag for one specific dress, a grey-flecked knit number that swallows most accessories, and it turned out to be the only bag I own that agrees with the dress completely. That is the trick of X9 Mauve: it is a purple that behaves like a neutral.
19 cm wide by 15 cm high by 4 cm deep, the proportions are the familiar ones, so the bag slips under a coat without a bulge. It holds a phone, a compact wallet, house keys, a lipstick, and on long days I add a small pouch of painkillers and a hair tie, which is the true test of any mini bag.
Warm gold hardware gives the dusty purple its contrast, and Epsom’s pressed grain keeps the surface even and hard-wearing. There is no gloss here to attract fingerprints, which matters on a muted colour; the bag looks the same at the end of a working week as it did on Monday.
My honest warning: in cold light Mauve drifts towards grey, and in candlelight it turns distinctly warmer and pinker. If you need a colour that stays constant, look elsewhere. If you like a bag that responds to a room, this one is a quiet pleasure. It has kept its shape and its matte surface through a full winter, and the gold clasp still sits as tight as it did on day one.
