Brown leather had a quiet decade, and I think that was a mistake. This 47 Chocolate Bolide 31 in taurillon clemence makes the case for its return: the colour is deep cocoa with a matte soul, and in this thick, grained leather it looks less like a fashion object than like equipment — good equipment, the kind that improves with scratches.
Clemence is the softest, most pliable leather in this family, so the thirty-one centimetre dome collapses gently when set down and moulds under your arm. It is the most tactile bag here and the most forgiving: chocolate hides rain spots, dust and daily bruises better than any other colour I know. A laptop, a rolled jumper, a flask and a pouch fit without drama.
Gold hardware disappears into the brown, so the effect is monochrome and warm; the zip stays smooth because the leather around it has give. On the shoulder the bag rides close and low, which is how soft dome bags should sit.
Honest notes, two of them. Clemence is dense, and this is the heaviest of the 31s even before you pack it; your shoulder will know by evening. And the slouch cuts both ways — when you want sharp, this bag cannot give it. The soft base also meets cafe floors and pays for it, so mind where you set it down.
For weekends, market runs and trips where nothing needs to look formal, it is the one I reach for without thinking.
