Étoupe is the colour I recommend to indecisive friends, and I mean that as praise. It is a grey with a warm, brown-sugared heart — taupe in the classic sense — and it does something most neutrals only promise: it changes temperature with your wardrobe, warming against camel and cream, cooling against charcoal and navy.
Togo’s pebble grain gives this Bolide 27 a soft, matte surface that takes light gently; in its twenty-seven by twenty by ten centimetre frame it handles the full day-kit — wallet, phone, keys, pouch, sunglasses, a folded scarf on cold mornings — with the zip running smoothly around the dome.
Silver hardware keeps the grey honest; there is no competing colour anywhere on the bag, which is exactly why it works with everything. Crossbody on the strap, the bag disappears into an outfit rather than perching on top of it — the definition of a workhorse, though workhorses deserve better press than they get.
Honest notes: Étoupe reads dull in photographs sometimes, and in a wardrobe of pure cool grey it can tip toward khaki — see it in daylight before you commit, since the undertone is the whole story. Also, Togo slouches with time; the dome will relax the way a leather jacket relaxes, which I count as a virtue but a strict packer might not.
If you want one bag that argues with nothing you own, this is the diplomatic answer.
