Blue Jean is the friendliest blue in leather. It sits right next to actual denim without matching it embarrassingly, and it lightens black lace at dinner the way few colors can. This Mini 18 has been my test case for both, three weekends running.
Evercolor brings the dye out evenly, with a soft tone shift at the curves that reads as depth rather than fading. The grain is fine, the hand supple, and because the leather has give, the little dome feels slightly rounded in the palm — the Mini of the family with the most relaxed character.
In it: phone, zip card case, keys minus the fob, a lip tint and my transit pass. Eighteen centimetres wide with the depth of a paperback, it is honest about being a small bag — this is not the one for laptops and lunches. It is the one for shows, dinners and hands-free errands.
A note on tone: Blue Jean is a true mid-denim shade, so it never reads black indoors or cyan in flash — what you see at the counter is what you carry for years. Against white cotton it looks nautical without slipping into costume; against grey knitwear it is simply the best blue in the room.
Watch out for one thing: a soaked day is the day to leave it home, since wet Evercolor and a white silk shirt are a bad pair. Otherwise scuffs brush out of the surface and the blue stays true season after season.
