Orange Poppy is the kind of orange that forgives nothing and matches nothing, which is exactly why it works as a charm. Add Craie and Rubis to the same little horse and you get the Rodeo at its most French: a souvenir-stall palette executed in seriously good leather.
Everything is Milo lambskin, soft and slightly glossy after a few weeks of handling. At just under ten centimetres across and eight high, it disappears into a bag when you want it gone and dominates when you clip it front and centre — no middle ground, which is exactly the point. The stitching stays tonal, barely visible in the orange, which keeps the silhouette clean.
My favourite way to wear it is against black: a plain black shoulder bag, plain black coat, and then this. It started three conversations at a friend’s birthday dinner. On a beach bag or a bicycle basket the orange looks native rather than loud. The charm has a talent for showing up in the corner of other people’s photographs.
Honest notes: red bags will fight it, orange coats will double it, and the Craie portion will pick up whatever is on your hands at the market. The bright surface will also record a scuff more visibly than darker leathers do. If you like your accessories quiet, walk past this one; if you buy leather for joy, this is the one. Worn against grey, it turns a uniform into a decision. Handmade in France.
