Some pieces are bought for colour and worn for years; this black Roulis is bought for absence of colour and worn for years. It is a double tour in braided Swift calfskin, a stated 5.7 to 6.1 inch fit, with rose gold plated hardware that shows as a thin warm line against the black cord. The whole bracelet weighs almost nothing, which you notice when you put it on.
The braid measures 0.12 inches across, and doubling it gives that layered, almost hand-woven look on the wrist, looser in feel than a bangle but just as deliberate. The Roulis closure turns and pins through the cord, so there is no buckle digging into the underside of your arm, and I can tighten or loosen the bracelet by one braid length if my wrist swells in summer heat.
For styling I reach for black leather most when the outfit is already dark, but the more interesting pairing is charcoal knitwear and this bracelet on a bare wrist, since the only metal in sight is the tiny rose gold clasp. It also works with white in summer, and it is the bracelet I lend to friends who claim not to wear jewellery at all, because it barely counts as jewellery.
Honest expectation setting: black Swift is polished by wear rather than scuffed, so over time a soft sheen appears on the outer curve of the braid, and it is very hard to see unless you look closely. Water and hand cream are the real enemies, so keep them away. Stored coiled in the pouch, the braid stays even. Made in Italy.
