Lizard has a scale pattern so fine it looks drawn on, and the shiny Java finish makes it gleam under a table light. In rose aquarelle the surface reads like watercolour washed over pebbles — pale pink laid over darker markings rather than a flat block of colour. Scale sizes vary across the piece, which is part of the charm rather than a flaw.
The H cut-out is cut cleanly through it, and the watercolour pink continues into the wrapped edge and heel, with pink lambskin lining and a natural leather sole. Two inches of heel, EU 36-41, made in Italy, reference H242280Z CK370. The pink changes with the light: almost champagne at noon, rose at night.
These are dinner sandals in the truest sense: light, precise, and better indoors than on gravel. I wear them with ivory, with grey and with black when I want the shoes to be the softest thing in the outfit. A two-inch heel is the kindest height for an evening that involves standing. With black silk they look like jewellery for the ankle; with white they look like spring.
Two things to know. Lizard scales lift slightly over years of wear — it is normal, and specialist care can settle them. And shiny finishes show every fingerprint, so keep them in their dust bag rather than loose in a case. Lizard prefers a dry climate, so a wet city break is not their moment. A specialist can refresh the shine, but only rarely.
