Tomette red leans brick, not cherry. With amber earth in the lining, this Chypre reads like terracotta in the sun and like worn leather indoors, which makes it the most autumnal colour in a family of summer sandals. It is the closest thing in my closet to a spice; it seasons an outfit without changing it.
The format is unchanged: suede goatskin upper, adjustable instep strap, anatomical black rubber sole, calfskin over the footbed. Half an inch of sole height, and a warm lambskin lining dyed in the same amber family. The whole shoe is quietly tonal.
I pair these with ecru, olive and cream, and notably not with black, which flattens the warmth. On a long lunch that turns into a walk, the shaped sole is the reason I can keep them on all afternoon without thinking about my feet. They also arrived true to size, which with suede is not something to assume.
The honest part: red-brown suede shows water spots readily, and because the colour is saturated, a spot reads as a ring until it dries. Mine met a sprinkler in June; blotting and brushing saved it, slowly. Keep them for dry days.
The upside of a strong tone is how gracefully it ages: the suede darkens at the flex points into a deeper rust that looks intentional. Italian-made, in sizes 36 through 41. If your summer has too much beige in it already, start here.
