There are two kinds of gold in this house: the metal, and the leather colour. The mini Bearn in ck37 Gold wears both at once, and the result is warmer than I expected — tan calfskin under a gold plate, a combination that makes the small wallet look like it has been borrowed from a jacket pocket of another decade.
At eight centimetres tall and a shade over ten wide, it is the smallest format in this style, sized for a phone pocket and a crossbody bag. Inside, the layout rewards a lighter life: my four cards and a couple of folded notes fill it exactly, and the flap sits flat rather than bowing. Cards come out on the first pull, because pressed leather keeps a reliable grip.
Epsom’s heat-embossed surface is what makes a wallet this small survive a busy tote. It shrugs at keys, resists the crumb of a handbag floor and wipes clean of rain, and the tan deepens slowly rather than blotching, which is the way I like to see a warm shade age. The gold hardware matches the leather so closely that the strap closure almost disappears against it.
One caution: bright tan does draw the eye to any edge wear, and this cut sits closest to the hand of everything I own, so wear will happen. Mine has taken it gracefully; the corners have gone a little honeyed, and I have stopped treating that as damage. It is the reason to choose leather over anything else.
