Airport security trays are where wallets are judged, and this mini Bearn in ck89 Noir has never once made me wince. Small, matte, folded flat: it goes through the scanner as a single tidy object, then lives in my jacket for the rest of the trip without asking for attention. For travel, the black-and-gold pairing is still the most reliable company.
The format is compact — about ten centimetres by eight — but the interior is organised around essentials rather than space. Boarding card goes behind the notes, two bank cards in the front, a train ticket and a spare key card in the middle. When the flap closes over its gold plate, nothing shifts. I have shaken this wallet upside down more than once looking for a receipt I had put somewhere else.
Epsom keeps the black deep and slightly textured; the pressed grain is dense enough that fingerprints and lint slide off, which is more than many black leathers manage in a week of handling. Rain and spills simply sit on the surface. After months of use, the only thing that has changed is a soft polish along the flap, and the gold plate has kept its tone without tarnish.
What stops me calling it perfect: the stiff leather and compact dimensions leave no room for the ‘just in case’ cards, and the black will show scuff if you scrape it against a wall. Mine has one small mark near the corner; on a wallet this small and this dark, it counts as character rather than damage.
