Strip the range back to essentials and you get this pair: calfskin, suede goatskin, black inserts, a black ribbon, nothing that needs explaining. It is the plainest black sneaker in the line and, on the evidence of my own rotation, the one that gets worn most because choosing it takes no thought.
The calfskin panels give the shoe a firm hand and a matte finish, and the suede overlays soften the transitions at the toe and heel. Underfoot, a four centimetre white sole carries black rubber inserts front and back; above the insole, black lamb’s skin covers the full interior. Men’s sizes 40 to 46, made in Italy.
What I appreciate after months of wear is how little there is to keep clean: smooth calf wipes with a cloth, suede brushes in ten seconds, and the fabric ribbon does not fray. The pair looks materially the same as the day it arrived, which cannot be said of every black sneaker I have owned.
One honest limitation: the design gives you no voice. If you want a sneaker that starts conversations, this is not it; it is the shoe equivalent of a plain white shirt, correct everywhere and memorable nowhere, which is exactly what a weekday shoe should be. What it returns instead is an absence of decisions: it packs for any trip and any dress code short of black tie, and it is never the wrong pair.
