What do you actually need a flat leather home for? In my case: passports, cards, and the small stack of things that would otherwise float loose in a tote. This 25 cm Ebene folio answers that question better than any organizer I have tried, mostly because it is only 4 cm deep and never turns into a filing cabinet.
Ebene is a dense dark brown that reads nearly black indoors and clearly chocolate in daylight, so it works with a navy suit and with denim, which few browns manage. Silver hardware sits on it with a cool, quiet contrast that I prefer here to the warmth of gold.
Inside, I fit a passport, a cardholder, keys and a phone, and the pebbled Togo gives just enough to let the flap close without a fight. If I overload it, the corners start to bow, because Togo is soft and a pouch like this shows it faster than a structured bag would.
The reward for that softness is in the hand: this is a folio that folds into your day rather than against it. Mine lives in the front pocket of a weekend bag and comes out for dinner.
As for the shade itself, Ebene is one of the few browns that never turns orange as it ages. It darkens a little at the folds and stays deep, which is why I reach for it in winter over a charcoal coat and in summer against cream linen, never once feeling it was the wrong brown.
