Every serious wardrobe needs one bag that never has to be thought about, and for me that is a black Togo 35 with silver hardware. Noir in Togo is black with a soft, light-absorbing finish, so the bag looks deep rather than shiny, and the pebble grain means it arrives at the end of a long day looking much as it did at breakfast.
The 35 is the size that makes that usefulness possible. A laptop up to thirteen inches, a wallet, keys, glasses, a phone and a pouch fit with space for an umbrella on a rainy forecast, and the interior is organised enough that you are not rummaging. Carried by hand, the bag’s weight sits differently than a shoulder bag; you notice it more at the end of a day, less in the middle of one.
Silver on black is the most direct version of this combination, cooler and sharper than gold, and it stays that way as the hardware acquires the fine scratches that all metal eventually collects. A soft cloth at the weekend keeps it looking deliberate rather than worn.
Honest note: black Togo shows dust and lint more than people expect, and it is not a bag that hides a hard commute forever, since the top edge will soften and the corners will polish over the years. Treat that as patina and you will get on with it beautifully.
