Most small evening bags stop being fully black somewhere: a gold clasp, a silver zip, a bright stitch. This Faubourg does not. Noir over Noir, with black hardware that disappears into the leather, makes the 20cm body read as one solid object, and the only variation left is texture, smooth calf below, scales above.
I first carried it to a winter concert and spent the evening noticing how the alligator awning caught the light while the rest of the bag stayed matte. In a dark room it is almost invisible; under a streetlamp the scales glint and give it away. The closure turns firmly, the handle sits comfortably over two fingers, and the whole piece weighs what a phone weighs.
The interior takes a phone, a cardholder, keys and a lipstick with nothing to spare, which is the honest arithmetic of a 20 by 16 by 11 cm evening bag. I keep a flat pocket mirror in mine and it still closes with ease.
A fair warning about black plating: coated hardware can show wear at the high points over years of use, so I avoid letting keys knock against the clasp, and I store the bag in its dust bag rather than loose in a drawer. Small habits, but on an all-black piece any wear is noticeable, and a little discipline keeps it looking as deliberate as it does on day one.
