Dinner is where this bag lives. Black Epsom with gold hardware is the most classically evening-ready combination in the format, and the Kelly 25 carries it without any help: a dark shine on the metal, a dark matte on the leather, and a profile that sits flat at the table like it was designed for exactly that.
The gold matters more than people expect. Against black, gold reads warm-black rather than cold-black; the bag looks formal but human, and it photographs with more depth than the silver version of the same bag, which can go grey and technical under a flash.
In the hand, 25 x 17 x 7 cm is light enough to hold all evening with straight posture; one phone, one slim cardholder, keys and a lipstick is the fullest sensible manifest. Everything I could not live without at a table for four hours happens to fit; everything else waits at home.
Epsom’s habits are well known to me by now: rain wipes off, corners keep their sharpness, and years of use leave the structure untouched. What it will not do is develop the soft, settled look of walked-in leather; this bag stays as composed on its hundredth evening as its first.
One small honesty: because black-and-gold skews dressy, I find it the wrong bag for half my weekend life, the market, the park, a long lunch in the sun, where it feels overcooked against a t-shirt. Its home is evening. Treat it as a specialist and it will never let down an evening.
